Swimming Goggles
Why wear goggles ?
Prolonged exposure to chlorine can result in damage to the corneal surface of the eye. This may cause irritated itchy eyes, or temporary loss of vision.
If you wear a goggle, you can open your eyes, and not worry about eye damage.
Swimming goggles can protect your eyes from water borne infections.
When swimming outdoors, swim goggles can protect your eyes from ultraviolet radiation.
Swimming goggles can also have a tinted lens to shield you from the sun.
If you wear a prescription, glazeable swimming goggles can be fit with your prescription in them to help you see underwater.
There are two type of prescription options:
Step Diopter This is a prefabricated goggle in spherical prescription lenses similar to ready made reading glasses. You simply pick the goggle that is closest to your prescription so that you can see, but won't see perfectly.
Glazeable Swimming Goggle This is made in the same way as your regular glasses where we make a prescription lens with your exact prescription into the swimming goggle. Generally, step diopter goggles work for most people. Those with a high degree of astigmatism will certainly benefit from custom made swimming goggles.
If you are swimming outdoors, make sure your goggle protects your eyes from ultraviolet radiation.
Instructions for use
VP Sport and Sonia Goggles
To assure a good fit and long term stability of optical properties for your swimming goggle, please follow these instructions:
Adjusting goggles for safe fit:
Correct adjustment of the nose piece is essential for a watertight seal and comfort. Slide the lens closer together or further apart ( VP Sport ) or tighten or lengthen the nose piece ( Sonia ) until the fit is perfect. Do not tighten the headstrap too much ( Sonia, regulate length of headstrap according to head size then tie two loose ends with a double knot behind the head ).
Fitting and removal of goggles:
Always position goggles with both hands, firstly position over both eyes then stretch headstrap over the back of your head. This prevents accidental catapulting of eye cups into eyes or face. To remove goggles safely take hold of the eye cups and lift them gently upwards onto your forehead and push over the top of your head.
Care of your goggles:
When not being worn keep your goggles in a storage bag or case. Avoid shatters by storing the goggles next to rigid items. Wash gently in clear cold water after each use. Do not use chemical cleaners as this can damage the goggles.
Warning: Never pull the eye cups forward away from the face.
